GREENVILLE, SC - September 19, 2012 - Running a building isn’t what it used to be. The complexities and interdependencies of a facility’s systems – HVAC, electric, lighting, etc. – require an understanding of the big picture so that they work together optimally to promote energy efficiency. The Building Operator Certification program or BOC trains facility personnel to understand how these systems work together and how to bring them to their most efficient level of operation.

A statewide Builder Operator Certification program, offered by Greenville Technical College, Trident Technical College, and Horry-Georgetown Technical College, kicks off for the first time in the Upstate on October 12. The emphasis is to recognize practical, no cost or low cost solutions, working with existing building systems to improve energy performance. Also explained are the how-to’s of developing a preventive maintenance program that improves the building environment and prolongs equipment life.

Attendees earn a nationally-recognized certification by completing a series of weekly training sessions, exams, and take-home project assignments. Participants gain firsthand experience using the tools and methods taught in class to build records on each organization’s electrical systems, HVAC operations, lighting levels and controls, and annual profiles of energy consumption.

This 74-hour, eight-session program meets on Fridays from October 12 through December 7 (no class on Thanksgiving weekend). The cost of the program is $1,560 with limited seating.
