GREENVILLE ZOO HOSTS ANNUAL CONSERVATION DAY

Event designed to create awareness and offer ideas

GREENVILLE, SC - May 1, 2010 – The Greenville Zoo is partnering with local agencies and civic groups to help create awareness about animal conservation and educate the community about ways to become more environmental-friendly at its annual Conservation Day. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is organized by the Greenville Zoo’s Education Department and will feature various community partners including: BMW, Greenville City Recycling, Greenville County Soil and Water, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, TreesGreenville, Upstate Forever, Wildlife Rehab, Earth Fare, Natural Awakenings, Greenville County Spare the Air Campaign and Sustainable Greenville. Display tables will be set up throughout the zoo campus for guests to receive a variety of educational information.

About Greenville Zoo

The Greenville Zoo is celebrating 50 years in Cleveland Park with year-long family-friendly festivities including a Summer Zoobilee, a historical look back and gala to benefit the zoo’s clinic. Operated by the City of Greenville, the Greenville Zoo is an exotic animal kingdom located in downtown Greenville. The 14-acre facility features wildlifefrom around the world including giraffes, monkeys, giant tortoises and elephants. Visitors can also enjoy one of the zoo’s most popular exhibits, the Reptile Building, which is home to a variety of lizards, frogs, turtles and snakes. Additional attractions include Cleveland Park which features a children’s playground, picnic tables, walking paths and plenty of wide open green spaces.
