It’s the Screening of a Lifetime! St. Francis is Rolling out the Blue Carpet for Men Age 50 and Over
5th Annual FREE Prostate Cancer Screening
Saturday, June 9 • 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Outpatient Center • ST. FRANCIS downtown
GREENVILLE, SC - June 4, 2012 - To mark the 5th Anniversary of it‟s annual free prostate cancer screening, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System is giving men age 50 and older the "royal‟ treatment—make that royal blue. Just as celebrities walk the red carpet at film screenings this time of the year, Greenville-area men are invited to attend what could be the most important screening of their lives.
Instead of red, however, the carpet is blue to promote prostate cancer prevention, early detection and survival.
"We see this anniversary as a special opportunity to celebrate lives saved through early detection and use the blue carpet to make the subject of prostate cancer less threatening," said Natalie Dougherty of St. Francis Community Ministries.
"We especially want to extend an invitation to the screening to all men age 50 or older who are uninsured/underinsured and do not have a primary care physician."
Men age 40 and older with a family history of prostate cancer are also encouraged to attend. The free screening is on Saturday, June 9, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Outpatient Center, ST. FRANCIS downtown and includes:
- Educational information
- A PSA blood test
- An optional physical exam, conducted by a physician
Doors open at 8:00 a.m. All information collected at the screening remains confidential. Registration is not required; attendees are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Nursing staff and interpreters will be present to help address any questions or concerns.
Community partners for this event includes the Greenville chapter of UsTOO prostate cancer education and support group.
