Rep. Trey Gowdy to Speak at USC Upstate’s Constitution Day Celebration
SPARTANBURG, SC - Tuesday, September 18, 2012 - The University of South Carolina Upstate will host its third annual Constitution Day celebration on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 with guest speaker Rep. Trey Gowdy. His lecture, “The Constitution of the United States - Rights and Responsibilities in a Republic,” begins at 7 p.m. in the Sansbury Campus Life Center Ballroom. It is free, and open to the public.
This public lecture is held in commemoration of the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution in September 1787. It is sponsored by the Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy, and American Studies within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Gowdy is a noted public servant who has fought to uphold the Constitution as a federal prosecutor and as a member of Congress. Representing South Carolina’s 4th District, he entered Congress with a resolute commitment to the conservative principles that have guided him throughout his years in public service. At the core of those principles lies a firm belief in a limited government that inspires trust and demands accountability.
Gowdy serves on the Committee on Judiciary, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Committee on Education and the Workforce. In these capacities, Gowdy has fought to uphold the Constitution, rein in the ever-expanding scope of the federal government, and restore America’s trust with a renewed spirit of honesty and transparency. He is the former 7th Circuit Solicitor.
