GREENVILLE, SC - For the past two years, Greenville has earned recognition from national non-profit KaBOOM! as a "Playful City USA" for its efforts to increase play opportunities for children. As part of its commitment to providing additional, safe "play space," the City will host two free Playstreet events for the community. For both events, a section of Lakehurst Street in Cleveland Park will be closed to allow children to play basketball, ride bikes, skateboard, etc. in the street.

The event will also feature a bounce house and games and activities led by Parks & Recreation Department staff. Food from Sticky Fingers will be available for purchase at the event.

"Play streets" are popular in cities in the northeast and Europe where there is limited space available for play and are designed to turn streets into places for communities to gather and play. The City held its first Playstreet event in the North Main community last fall and plans to hold additional events in other parts of the city in the future.
