GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Chamber has recognized and honored women in leadership with the ATHENA Leadership Award® since 2001. This prestigious award is presented to women who have made significant contributions to Greenville in promoting community prosperity and quality of life. The ATHENA Leadership Symposium is a unique leadership program inspired by past recipients of the ATHENA Award in an effort to actively support talented women and minorities in achieving leadership positions in greater numbers.

About Sharon Decker
After graduating summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Sharon Decker began a successful professional career, working seventeen years for Duke Energy, serving both as the first female vice president and, in her last position, as Chief Communications Officer. Sharon was president of Tanner Companies and the founding CEO and President of The Lynnwood Foundation. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Tapestry Group LLC. Sharon currently serves as a board member for several non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 companies.

She has been a director of Family Dollar Stores Inc. since 1999 where she serves on the Leadership Development and Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Governance Committee. She has been a Director of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated Inc. since May 2001, and she serves on the Audit Committee and Employee Benefits Committee. She has been an Independent Director of SCANA Corporation since December 2005 where she serves on the Nuclear Oversight Committee and Human Resource Committee. She serves as Chief Executive Officer of North Washington Street Properties, Rutherfordton, N.C., a Director of South Carolina Electric & Gas Co., and a Director of the Public Service Company of North Carolina Inc. (alternate name PSNC Energy), a subsidiary SCANA Corporation. She serves as a Director of Herschend Family Entertainment Group and Sona International.

She served as an Executive Director of The Duke Power Foundation. Sharon chaired the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, and she was named Charlotte Woman of the Year. Sharon and her husband Bob have been married 32 years and are the parents of four children. The Decker family makes their home just south of Asheville in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Rutherfordton, NC.
